How I See Things

I started my advising firm because I observed a lot of time and money being wasted on marketing products and services that didn’t deliver value to their intended target.

Now, it wasn’t because the people at these companies weren’t smart. It’s that no one had made it clear to them what their strategy should be for creating, delivering and capturing value. In other words, no one was asking or answering “stupid” questions like -

  • “What do we do?”
  • “Why does this organization exist?”
  • “Who uses our product or service?”
  • “What conditions and activities allow us to capture value from these customers?”

We know long-term business growth comes from promising a customer a certain experience, and delivering that experience consistently. However, this can’t happen unless a business -

1.    Understands who their customer is and how they create, deliver and capture value from them.
2.    Simply and consistently communicate who they are, what problem they solve and why they do what they do.
3.    Ensures they have systems in place to consistently deliver the experience they promise.

I’ve observed that a lot of good businesses don’t have a clear understanding of who their customer is and how their product or service solves a problem for that customer. A lot of time and money seems to be wasted marketing products and services that didn’t deliver value to their intended target.

  1. Understands who their customer is and how they create, deliver and capture value from them.
  2. Simply and consistently communicate who they are, what problem they solve, what makes them different from their competitors and why they do what they do.
  3. Ensures they have systems in place to consistently deliver the experience they promise.

Does that seem too simple? Facebook describes themselves as “helping you connect and share with the people in your life.”
